The Most Valuable Button Of My Physical Therapy Career

The Most Valuable Button Of My PT Career

Why are you in Physical Therapy? To help patients, provide for your family, maybe something different?

Really quick video that I want to share with you…

It wasn’t all that long ago that I was really struggling in my private PT practice… I think I fell into the trap that most of us fall into.

I thought the more I learn and the more letters that I have after my name, the better off I was going to be. I wanted to chase certifications…

I went back to school for a little while… I think I need 9 more credits for my DPT…

I started going down that path.

Then I stepped back and asked myself what I was really trying to solve…

What did I really want?

Deep down inside I really wanted to be a provider for my family…

Be a little bit of a hero…

Be able to take care of the finances so that my wife didn’t have to worry about how we were going to pay bills or what activities my kids could do or couldn’t do.

I wanted to provide my kids with the best education…buy the safest vehicle for my family or take a vacation or whatever that may be.

When I searched deep enough, that is really what I wanted to do.

Like a lot of other PTs do, I started chasing education in order to achieve this. I thought the more I learn and the more letters that I have after my name, the better off it is going to be.

Then I Learned The Most Valuable Button Of My Career…

So about 5 years ago, I went to a business event here in Harrisburg.  There was a guy who was a syndicated newspaper columnist.

His name was Jeffrey Gitomer….He’s had 7 different books on the New York Times bestseller list for business and sales including The Little Platinum Book of Cha-Ching, The Little Red Book of Sales.

Biggest takeaway?

He said we all can can have a voice.  It is basically the gold rush of media and now we all have a chance.

We are at the dawn of the information age.  Just because things are snowballing really, really fast and now we have Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Snapchat… and a lot of different social media platforms.

The most important, the most valuable lesson that I got out of that event with Jeffrey Gitomer was this:

Hit record.

Once I started doing that and I committed to doing that, it changed my life. Here is what I’m going to tell you…

If you watch the video above… I have probably said “um” at least 2 dozen times…

I’m not a polished speaker.  I’m partially balding and my hair is graying.  My teeth are crooked because I didn’t wear my retainers when I was 14 years old.  There are a lot of problems wrong with me but I’ll tell you this… there is nothing that I’m doing that you couldn’t do.

I don’t care what your presentation skills are like…

you dont have to start to be great
If you go back and you look at some of my earlier YouTube videos, I was horrendous.  I don’t think I’m great now but I was horrendous back then!!!

But some of those videos have more than a million views.  I just looked recently and we just passed 8 million views on my YouTube channel.

We have been able to help people from, literally, all over the world.  It is not just here in Harrisburg, PA.  I have been able to extend my reach all over the US including Alaska and Hawaii, Canada, the UK, many parts of Europe, Austrailia, New Zealand and a lot of folks in India.

They will reach out with questions.  I have been able to have this worldwide reach just because I was able to do one thing…

I Had The Courage To Hit Record.

The purpose of this post is you have that same thing. You have the same expertise in you.

You have gone to school. You worked hard in school to pass, to get a degree. You do have an expertise. Maybe it is not back pain and sciatica. Maybe it is lymphedema or incontinence or something of the like.

The big question is: how do you put content out there?

The first thing that you have to do, the first step that you have to do is just commit. I did it once a week in the beginning. Now I do it daily.

What I did is listen to questions that patients would ask me about their condition. Then I would record my answer to that. That is exactly what I am in this post but I’m doing it from one private practice owner to another.

So I listen to your questions then on a Tuesday or a Friday or whatever day of the week it is, I will just hit record and I will record an answer to whatever questions that I am hearing from other practice owners.

You can do this. I want you to hit record…There are no limitations but yourself.

You can use a smartphone. You don’t need big fancy equipment.

Things don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have perfect lighting. You don’t have to have a 4 foot by 8 foot whiteboard. You might just have a 2 foot by 3 foot whiteboard or something like that.

The conditions don’t have to be perfect. The only thing that you have to do is hit record and just start somewhere.

Give The World Value. Deliver Value And You Are Going To Be Fine.

value

Post it up to YouTube.

Post it out there….

Soon enough, you are going to get to a point where you can’t possibly see everybody who wants to see you.  But it all starts when you hit record.

So hit record now.

After you do that, go underneath the video above and leave me a thumbs up or thumbs down
